On Friday 1st February Felsted welcomed ten schools from across the region to take part in the Annual U11 Hockey Tournament. Heads of Senior School Hockey, Loren Sherer and Nick Phillips, engaged teams in a warm-up and skills session before lunch in readiness for the tournament, which was well received by the children involved.
The boys' tournament took on a round-robin format whilst the girls' side of the event had two pools with semi-finals and a final. The standout team in the boys’ tournament was FKS, who comfortably won six matches and drawing the other. Felsted Preparatory School then beat Barnadiston Hall into second place by the virtue of goal difference.
In the girls' side of the competition both pools were very tight and after two hard fought semi-finals the final was played between the two most consistent teams of the day, Felsted Preparatory School and Kingshott. After a tight opening period Felsted Preparatory School scored two quick goals to settle the match and end the day victorious. St Margaret's School won the third vs fourth play-off to finish in bronze medal position.
The standard of hockey throughout the day was impressive and it bodes well for hockey in this region, seeing so many young pupils enjoying the game and playing with such a high skill level. Felsted now looks forward to welcoming the U9 Tournament later in the term.
