U13 Girls' and Boys' Hockey Teams are Crowned Essex Champions!

Both the U13 Girls' and Boys' have both won the Essex Mini Hockey Tournament, held at Redbridge on Tueday 5th February. They have both now been crowned Essex Champions after a fantastic performance!

Boys' U13
A very cold day which began sunny but gradually got colder and colder. The team played some very good hockey and controlled most of the play in the matches, but then found it difficult to adjust to a stronger side at the end.

Felsted v Forest School: Won 3 – 0
Felsted v Helena Romanes: Won 7 – 0
Felsted v Emmerson School: Won 5 – 0

We then had a tough game against Chigwell, we could not get things right. An awkward time, but the side worked hard to overcome the problems winning 1 – 0 . Bancroft B then paid the price as the Felsted side put some good passing moments and spread out, using the width of the pitch. Won 5 – 0.

We were top of our group, so the team moved into the semi-final against 2nd in the other group Holmwood House, Won 6 – 0. The team played some exciting hockey and passing moves.

In the Final against Bancroft it could not have been more exciting. We did not play well, but were good in phases and the opposition were quite strong and determined. We went 1 – 0 up through a goal by Hitchcock, but then thought this would be ok. Bancroft responded quickly, 1 - 1. We then managed to get control again and went 2 – 1 up through Barnaby and again Bancroft drew 2 - 2 at the very end.

Penalty Flicks
Three flicks: Felsted first missed and scored the next two, Bancroft scored two but Matthew saved the third, very tense. More to come!

Sudden Death Penalties
Bancroft started and scored. Felsted shot and the goal was saved BUT the goalie had moved early so a retake and we scored. Next Bancroft but Matthew saved and we scored. Essex Champions!! Congratulations to the team for a very big effort. Now on to the East.

The U13 Girls' won their section beating;
Alec Hunter 7-0
Holmwood House 7-2
Bancrofts B 6-0
Coopers Coburn 4-0
New Hall 5-0 in the semi finals.

The three finalists then played each other and we beat Holmwood House again 5-0 and Bancrofts A 1-0. The girls had played brilliantly, until the last game when pressure and tiredness set in. Although they had most of the play, it wasn't until the last few minutes that the winning goal went in.

A spectacular performance from the girls, who only conceeded two goals all day, whilst scoring 35!!
